For our March employee spotlight, get to know Xun Yang, Design Engineering Director, who recently celebrated 25 years at Silicon Labs! 🎉 We asked her to reflect on her career and share some favorite memories.
What inspired you to pursue your current career path?
As an engineer, I like solving problems using critical thinking. Electrical engineering requires understanding how different components interact and predicting outcomes using logical reasoning. At Silicon Labs, engineers work with the best in the industry to develop groundbreaking products and solutions. The company also offers a supportive environment for growth, with opportunities to work on challenging projects and collaborate with experts.
What’s one of your favorite Silicon Labs memories?
One of the projects I have worked on is called Proslic. The team worked well together and developed a family of great products. During busy times, our manager would order McDonald’s for our lunch meetings. The team members who had met their milestones got regular meals, while the ones who didn’t received happy meals with toys – a creative way to encourage us! The Proslic team still gets together once a year, with fond memories of when we worked together over 10 years ago.
What do you enjoy most about working at Silicon Labs?
The people. Everyone has strong technical backgrounds while being nice, humble, and always willing to help. This is a positive and inclusive workplace, which is hard to find elsewhere.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field, or just starting at Silicon Labs?
☑️ Embrace the learning curve and stay innovative: chip design, especially in Silicon labs, operates in a fast paced and innovative environment, which has a lot to learn. Be enthusiastic and prepared to dive into new technologies and be open to learning.
☑️ Be collaborative: seek opportunities to collaborate, ask for feedback and get involved in team discussions. Build strong relationships with your colleagues, which can help you grow professionally and make your work life more enjoyable.
☑️ Take initiative: If you see a problem or an area for improvement, take the initiative to address it. Your proactive attitude will be valuable.
What does being a part of Silicon Labs’ 25th IPO anniversary mean to you?
It’s a significant and exciting milestone for me, both personally and professionally. I have witnessed the company’s history of innovation, growth and success: transformed from a startup to a leading player in the industry. I am also proud of myself for my dedication and commitment to Silicon labs, through both challenges and triumphs!
What’s a fun fact about you?
I joined Silicon Labs on my birthday, so each year I celebrate both my birthday and my work anniversary! 🎂
